PRIDE—Project for Rural India’s Development and Empowerment

Welcome to the PRIDE website. The PRIDE organization is run by the Karunai Jothi Charitable Trust based in Chennai, India. The Trust was created and is supported by the children and extended families of the late Mr Rajaiah D Paul and the late Mrs Annie Paul. PRIDE is also grateful to several friends from all over the world who have contributed to the project.

PRIDE seeks to provide assistance in the development of remote villages in India where access to medical facilities, education and employment is limited.

The project is spearheaded by Dr B.D.R Paul and Dr Shanthi Paul, who have spent many years working at “Mission” hospitals in southern India. Their track record includes a successful Rural Development Program initiated during their years of service at the Holdsworth Memorial (Mission) Hospital at Mysore, in the south Indian state of Karnataka.

The first village selected by PRIDE is “Seeragodu”, 83 Km from Mysore in the Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka. Based on a survey of the village, a 3 year plan of programmes has been drawn up to make it self-sufficient.
